Benefits of Touch in Vital Danza

Gradually as the group build up trust and confidence with each other the facilitator will include safe, relaxing and nurturing exercises of touch into the session.  Here are some of the scientifically proven reasons for this:

When we are engaged in touch, our brains produce more serotonin and oxytocin. Both of these chemicals make us calm and happy and contribute to an overall sense of well-being and relaxation.

Engaging in touch reduces the amount of cortisol we produce. Cortisol is known as the "stress hormone" which suppresses the immune system.

Touch can lower blood pressure. This can play an enormous role in the prevention and treatment of numerous health conditions

Tiffany Field, director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami Medical School, studies the effects of massage therapy. Conditions that benefit include cancer, asthma, diabetes and fibromyalgia.    (1992)
